Teacher-researchers of MSU-CETD Senior High School presented their papers and earned recognition at ICALLE 2025: 5th International Conference on Applied Linguistics and Language Education hosted by De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila, August 28–30.

SHS Research Coordinator Ralph Laurence Valdueza, MAEd, was shortlisted to the Top 10 Outstanding Papers among 200 entries with his study titled "AI-Based Tools Acceptance, Utilization, and Perceived Linguistic Competence of Grade 12 Students: A Mixed-Methods Study."

The study used an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design to assess the relationships of AI-based tool acceptance, utilization, and perceived linguistic competence in the academic reading and writing of Grade 12 students in Mindanao State University–General Santos, highlighting the growing role of AI in shaping literacy skills and preparing students for higher education.

Valdueza also co-authored with Campus Secretary and former SHS instructor Monlouie M. Sorzano, MA, for the study "Trends, Implications, and Considerations for Language Education: A Review of Policy Frameworks on Generative AI in Philippine Higher Education Institutions," which was also showcased in the conference.

The study reviewed policy documents on generative AI in Philippine higher education institutions to examine trends and implications for language education, highlighting policy directions that guide AI integration in pedagogy and inform future-ready practices.

The ICALLE, established in 2014, is a biennial gathering hosted by DLSU-Department of English and Applied Linguistics (DEAL) that serves as a platform for educators, researchers, and practitioners to exchange knowledge on applied linguistics and language education.

ICALLE advances applied linguistics and language education by bridging research with practice, thereby increasing one's awareness of language and its role in education from both global and local perspectives.

With this feat, the Senior High School Department affirms its dedication to educating and building thriving communities through a culture of research, especially in the field of language education and education technology.
